When Lana McCandless says "I've been thinking" you just better watchout - she has an idea and will stop at nothing to accomplish it. Luckily for her, her neighbor and good friend, Sylvia Gray had the same idea. Out of this friendship and love of Culleoka the idea of a book about the history of and the memories of growing up in Culleoka was born. Their goal was to raise enough money to sponsor a scholarship at Culleoka School. They had no idea their dream would become such a sucess that it would be able to sponsor scholarships for many years.

To help insure the scholarship's future the Culleoka Alumni Scholarship Association was formed. Chartered in 2009, the primary purpose of the association is to provide financial assistance to Culleoka Unit School graduating students for the purpose of continuing their education. The Association is governed by a seven member Board of Directors. As of Decemeber 29th, 2009 the Association received its tax exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service. The Association has been classified as a public charity and contributions made to the association are now tax deductible.

We are proud of the fact that the amount of our scholarship has increased from $500 in 2007 to $2,000 in 2012. We credit much of this growth to the significant number of honorarium and memorial donations. Another factor contributing to the scholarship escalation is our annual fundraisers. We are grateful to all who have supported CASA and its mission to promote higher education to our community's high school graduates.
